The Welsh Grand National takes place each December at Chepstow Racecourse over a distance of 3 miles, 6 furlongs and 130 yards. This distance includes twenty-three fences and the prize fund in 2020 was £150,000 with £85,425 being awarded to the winner.

Initially contested in 1895, the Welsh Grand National moved to its current home in 1949 and the event was moved from Easter Tuesday to February in 1969 and to it’s current date of 27th December ten years later.

The 2020 Welsh Grand National was won by Evan Williams-trained Secret Reprieve, ridden by Adam Wedge. Several winners of the race have gone on to triumph in the Grand National at Aintree, recent examples including Bindaree and Silver Birch.

The Welsh Grand National has been sponsored by Coral Bookmakers since 1973, making this the longest sponsorship in jump racing.
